have you found yourself saying any of this before?
❋ i’m going out on dates, but women keep telling me they don’t feel a spark.
Your friends say your profile is fine, you get some matches (but rarely from the women you actually want to meet), dates can last for two hours and still end with “I just didn’t feel a connection”.
And because nobody tells you what went wrong, you keep getting the same result and just don’t know why.
❋ why is dating now so different?
You’re just out of a relationship, or you haven’t dated in years - and dating now feels so oddly unfamiliar. You may have found yourself wondering: Why is dating now so transactional? What am I actually looking for? What do I put on my profile?
You might also have the nagging feeling that your wardrobe and sense of self belong to an earlier version of yourself - and that you don’t have a single good photo of yourself without her.
❋ i keep overthinking and end up not saying anything i actually wanted to
You show up to mixers and other social situations, you talk to people and have a few nice chats; nothing obviously goes wrong, but you don’t really feel that anything you said represented you.
Then everybody goes home, you leave the room with nobody to follow up with, and no conversations to continue.
dating can take up a surprising amount of your life when nothing seems to move.
Another Sunday night swiping, another conversation ending halfway through the week, another first date followed by “You’re really nice, but…”
And another six months telling yourself you’ll probably meet the right person eventually.
THE FIRST THING WE DO AT PORTMANTEAU:
figure out where the actual problem is hiding
say real: you probably don’t need more dating advice.
You can read another thread about Hinge prompts, ask your friends if your photos are ok, go to another mixer, tell yourself the next date will be different. But if you keep getting the same results, surely you can’t keep throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks?
More dating isn’t always better dating. And tbh you shouldn’t be using the dates to figure out how to date better!
The hard part about dating is that you rarely get useful - or even real - feedback from the people you actually want the feedback from. What are you going to do with “I just didn’t feel a connection” anyway?
(And I’m sure Instagram or your ongoing conversation with ChatGPT hasn’t surfaced anything really useable.)
i believe better dating can be split into 3 key skills:
❋ your appearance
How you present yourself - in dressing, grooming and even online. What does someone actually experience when they meet you online or irl?
You might be much better in person than your CMB profile suggests. But that only matters if somebody actually gets far enough to meet you.
❋ your beliefs
What you believe about yourself, women and relationships. Who you choose, what you expect, what you assume, how you respond to rejection.
Some things in dating are outside your control; your beliefs aren’t.
❋ your communication
How you express interest, boundaries, curiosity and intention, how you start conversations, how you show interest, and more.
Not scripts or tricks or manosphere dating “advice” - go elsewhere if that’s what you’re looking for
we build on, and improve, these skills - so they stop costing you time and money.
dating doesn’t need to become your full-time 5-9.
The goal isn’t to spend the next five years getting exceptionally good at dating.
It’s to get good enough so that you meet someone you actually like, build a life together, and never have to date anyone else again.
❋ a better profile means:
The right parts of you are easier to see.
❋ a better date means:
You stop wondering whether you said the “correct” thing, and actually get to know the woman sitting opposite you.
❋ better judgement means:
You don’t make the same mistakes as before, and don’t force relationships that aren’t right just because you’re tired of being single.
❋ eventually, the win is very ordinary:
Someone to have dinner with.
Someone to message when your awful boss does something ridiculous again.
Someone you want beside you on the flight home.
Someone you can make decisions, memories, and a life with.
that’s what we’re doing this for.
NOT SURE WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED?
start with where you are right now

❋ back at it
Re-enter the dating world prepared and confident
Out of dating for a few years? You don’t need to re-learn by trial and error.
Across four private sessions, we get clear on what you want this time, update your profile and presentation, practise the parts that feel rusty and review what actually happens when you start meeting people again.
4 private sessions across 3-4 weeks, and 30 days of WhatsApp access • $890
“i have a date, mixer or event coming up” ↓
❋ the room where it happens
Show up to your next date or event prepared, practised, and less in your own head
Don’t use the real thing as your first practice run.
We choose the moments that usually make you freeze - whether it’s starting conversations, getting beyond work talk, etc. Then you practise with me, get feedback, try it again and use it for real.
After your event, we have a debrief, and create a plan to continue applying these learnings in the future.
3 private sessions • $547
“i know i have a pattern but can’t crack it” ↓
❋ the long game
Break the patterns that keep giving you the same results
You’ve changed the profile, gone on more dates, tried “putting yourself out there”, and somehow you keep ending up in roughly the same place.
The Long Game is for the point where you want to stop looking at one bad date at a time and work on the bigger picture.
Across six private sessions, we use coaching, practice and real-world dating feedback.
6 private sessions over 8-12 weeks, with full WhatsApp access • $1,390
Back At It, The Room Where It Happens and The Long Game always start with a Quick Hello introductory call, so we can decide whether we’re a good fit, and whether working together makes sense.
“i want to look better but i’m not really interested in fashion” ↓
❋ the makeover
Know exactly what to wear to look your best - not just “fine”
If most of your wardrobe is whatever was on sale at Uniqlo, you’re probably going to want this.
You don’t need expensive clothes; what you do need is clothes that fit you properly and actually suit your frame.
We’ll shop together, build complete outfits, and take reference photos so you know what to wear afterwards. Great for office / networking events too.
One 3h private personal shopping session • $597
No Quick Hello needed - you can book directly if you know this is what you want
“i just want to talk to someone” ↓
❋ talk tings through
Talk through whatever’s on your mind and leave knowing what to do next
If you’re kind of everything everywhere all at once and can’t decide what you want, it’s normal. Dating is finicky!
Book a one-time private dating consult, no obligations, no strings attached.
One 45min private dating consult • $247
No Quick Hello needed - feel free to book directly
QUESTIONS? Drop Ting a note.
which one do you actually need?
-
If you’ve been doing the same thing over and over without getting different results, chances are nothing is going to change anytime soon.
Personally, I wouldn’t waste time and effort with emotionally draining trial and error.
-
Not necessarily. If everything feels fine except your dating profile, start with the Second Opinion.
Back At It is for when the whole re-entry feels unfamiliar: the dating scene today, what you want now, meeting women again, and what happens when you start dating again.
-
Does practising interviews make it awkward or fake? No.
We’re not going to memorise lines or practise a personality - we’re just working to notice the moments you tend to shut down, start overthinking, and anything that you find yourself tripping up on.
I provide you the safe space to try, practise, and practise again - until there’s less to think about when they happen for real.
-
You definitely should!
But your friends already know you.
A woman seeing your dating profile or meeting you for the first time doesn’t have years of context. I don’t claim to speak for every woman, but what I can do is give you one informed female perspective through the lens of recruitment, HR, image training and coaching experience, and work out what is useful for you.
-
God no.
portmanteau is only for the men who want a serious relationship and want to get better at the parts of dating they can actually influence.

Wan Ting very patiently guided me through how to colour coordinate pieces within my colour palette, and gave really practical advice on how to shop for and plan my outfits…which really boosted my confidence. It was a truly personalised experience, and Wan Ting approached everything with patience and professionalism. 100% worth it!!”
N
hi! it’s wan ting, your professional wingwoman.
Before portmanteau, I spent 8 years in HR and recruitment, looking at how people presented themselves on just a piece of paper (surprisingly similar to dating profiles, if you ask me).
Today, I bring that together with my ICF training, image and colour analysis, and my own lived experience in modern dating.
That means that we can talk about the deeper stuff that matters, but it also means we can talk about the practical things like:
“That photo is not doing you justice.”
“When you don’t know what to say, you turn the date into an interview.”
“You say you want X, but you keep doing Y.”
“Those trousers do not fit you.”
Dating advice doesn’t need to be fit into separate boxes - you don’t work that way, and neither do I.
